Ha! I love this! I remember when I was small, sitting in the back seat of my mom's bitchin' 78 Monte Carlo as she wound us up Fish Creek Hill to the lakes... the yellow signs, "Pass with Car(e)".
Boy was my face red when I finally inquired.

On a similar note: My ex-wife once asked why the road would freeze right in front of a bridge.
Of course the sign actually said, "Bridge Freezes Before Road"
